Moving in to WOKO

Welcome to WOKO. Together with the rental contract, you will also receive all the important information about moving in, the rent deposit, rent payment and the house rules.

The house representative is responsible for handing over your rental property. Please arrange an appointment with him or her in good time to hand over the rental property and keys. The caretaker also lives in your property and is your first point of contact on site.

The best way to transfer your rent is via your bank – this works both from Switzerland and abroad. With a Swiss bank account, you also have the option of setting up a standing order. You can find details and further information on making a payment in the rent payment instructions.

2 Columns - Life in the WOKO

Life at WOKO

At WOKO, you usually live in a shared flat. Mutual tolerance and consideration are therefore important. Within the shared flat, you organize your own communal living and take care of the cleanliness (see instruction video) in all rooms. There is usually a semester deep clean twice a year (see below), during which the residents thoroughly clean all communal areas. This is followed by an inspection by WOKO.

If you have any concerns during your time at WOKO, you are welcome to contact us directly. In most cases, the easiest way to do this is to use the relevant form: for example, if you are changing from student to doctoral student status or would like to share your room with another student.

Here you will also find further important information and people who can help you with everyday living.

  • You are responsible for the cleanliness of your own living space. In the communal areas, it is the duty of the shared flat to clean them regularly.
  • In most shared flats, a semester clean is carried out once a semester. On this date, the members of the shared flat thoroughly clean all shared rooms. You can see what needs to be done in this video.
  • After the semester cleaning, an inspection is carried out by WOKO. If there are any complaints, WOKO will commission a cleaning company to clean the rooms again. The costs for this will be charged to the shared flat.
  • In properties with exchange students, the cleaning of communal areas is usually supported by cleaning staff.

  • House representatives (HR) are students who live in your property and are also employed by WOKO.
  • They are the liaison between the tenants and WOKO and the first point of contact for organizational issues, lost keys or problems with the internet.
  • If you have a request for the HR of your property, the easiest way to contact them is by e-mail. You can find the contact details on the information board at the entrance to the building

  • Most WOKO properties are looked after by a caretaker. The contact details of the person responsible can be found on the information board at the entrance to the building.
  • The caretaker cleans all common areas outside the shared apartments (entrance, stairwells, surroundings, etc.) and repairs damage.
  • Would you like to report any damage? You will find all the information how to proceed on the information board at the entrance to the building. You can also fill in a damage report directly online here. Please note: Damage reports by e-mail or telephone will not be accepted.

Moving out of WOKO

You can find the notice period for your rental property in the rental agreement. Notice of termination can only be given on the official date. The termination form must be completed in full and received by WOKO in writing or in person by the last working day of the month at the latest. If notice of termination is not submitted on time, it will not take effect until the next possible date for termination. WOKO will then send you confirmation of your termination and information on the exact procedure for moving out.

If you as the main tenant are unable to appear in person on the official move-out date for the acceptance and key return, you have the option of being represented by an authorized person. The power of attorney signed by you and the authorized person must be handed to the person responsible for the property on the handover date.
